What Nano-needling Is and Why You May Need It

Nano-needling is a non-invasive transdermal serum delivery system designed to rejuvenate your skin and treat common problems such as uneven skin tone, uneven texture, excessive pigmentation, scarring, and loss of elasticity. Nano-needling is also known as nano-infusion. This innovative treatment promotes up to 1000% more absorption of our professional-grade skincare products. What does this mean for you? Amazing results!

Many people have heard the term micro-needling. Nano-needling is a less invasive, less aggressive alternative to micro-needling. While nano-needling and micro-needling both utilize a needling pen and address similar skincare issues, the difference between the two treatments is the depth of needle penetration. Nano-needling produces nano-channels in the skin, but only the first layer of the skin (epidermis). Micro-needling creates nano-channels into the deep dermis and must be performed in a medical environment under a doctor’s supervision. If your skin concerns include fine lines, wrinkles, swelling, dark pigmentation, or sagging skin, nano-needling is a great solution.

How Nano-Needling Works

The nano infusion process is performed with a handheld stylus that touches the nano cartridge up and down on the surface of your skin. The stylus employs the use of pyramid-like nano pins. Each filament is thinner than a strand of human hair.  With this design, they are able to encourage cell turnover and prompt the skin to repair itself. Micro-needling also promotes up to 97% product absorption. The nano pins gently puncture the epidermis, creating up to 200,000 invisible nano-channels. This not only stimulates both collagen production and the regenerative processes of your skin, it allows your skin to absorb high-grade, rejuvenating serums below the skin barrier. The skin is able to more effectively benefit from active ingredients, reducing fine lines and wrinkles, reducing the look of scars, reducing hyper-pigmentation, and rejuvenating the overall health of your skin.

Nano-needling painlessly combats wrinkles, acne hyperpigmentation, fine lines, stretch marks, and other skin issues using your body’s own repair process.  This treatment requires no numbing cream or downtime. It is an effective treatment to painlessly smooth the texture of the skin and leave it looking radiant. It is beneficial in reducing the appearance of fine lines (particularly around the eyes and lips), improving the tone and texture of your skin, shrinking the appearance of pore size, reducing pigmentation, and firming the skin.

Is Nano-Needling Safe?

Nano-needling is a safe, non-invasive treatment, as it affects the epidermis alone. It can be performed on all skin types and skin tones. Due to the risk of post-traumatic hyperpigmentation, micro-needling is often not recommended for those with darker skin tones, but nano-needling is completely safe for all skin tones. It requires no healing after the treatment and there is no risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation as the melanocytes remain intact (as long as post-care instructions are followed). The treatment is painless and causes no inflammation, bleeding, or discomfort.

Nano-needling is an excellent alternative for those with an allergy to lidocaine or those who are afraid of or dislike needles. The sensation of nano-needling is often described as being similar to being licked by a cat.

Nano-needling is, in essence, a serum infusion treatment with benefits including pigmentation reduction, increased cell turnover, an increase in lift and tone, and an immediate glow with no recovery time involved. For best results, a series of four weekly nano-needling treatments is generally recommended. It is also very important to continue to use high-quality skincare products after the treatment to achieve optimum results.

Benefits of nano-needling include:

  • boosts collagen production
  • enhances product absorption
  • gently exfoliates
  • evens skin tone
  • improves skin texture
  • improves appearance of acne scarring
  • increases hydration
  • increases circulation
  • triggers the natural regenerative processes of the skin
  • softens lines and wrinkles
  • stimulates elastin and collagen production

Before nano-needing, you will want to take certain steps to ensure the most effective results:

  • Do not shave the treatment area the day of the procedure.
  • Do not wax or use depilatory creams on the targeted treatment area for a week prior to the procedure.
  • Avoid using any skin care products such as alpha hydroxyy, beta hydroxyy acid, retinol, etc. for a month prior to your treatment. A gentle cleanser is recommended.
  • Avoid Botox, or dermal fillers such as Juvederm for 2 weeks prior to the treatment.
  • If you are prone to cold sores or fever blisters, we recommend asking your healthcare provider for a prescription of Valtrex to prevent an outbreak. Start Valtrex taking three to four days prior to the procedure and for four days post procedure.
